Description
A typical detail showing how a new footing is set clear of an existing underground pipe so it imposes no additional load on the main, drawn in section. A 45° line of influence is projected down from the underside of the new footing; the existing stormwater main is kept outside this zone of influence, with the footing held a minimum of 1m clear of the pipe (and any building overhang) and the pipe about 0.5m below – the geometry that keeps the footing load spreading into the ground rather than onto the pipe.
It is a reusable structural/civil standard for building near existing services – drop it in and dimension the clearance and pipe depth to suit the site and the relevant authority’s build-over rules.
