A typical footing detail, drawn in section at 1:20, showing a reinforced concrete pad and pier supporting a column, with a minimum 300mm cover of soil over the footing. The footing is dimensioned by width (W) and depth (D) and drawn with its reinforcement cage, and the note refers back to the schedule (denoted SF1, SF2 and so on) for the size and reinforcing bars – so one detail serves every footing type on the job.

It is a ready structural standard you drop into a footing or foundation plan and dimension from the engineer’s schedule, rather than redrawing the section for each footing mark.
