A typical rural road cross section on a single (one-way) crossfall with a two-coat bituminous seal wearing surface, drawn about the centreline. The section sets out a 3,000mm (one lane) to 5,500mm (two lane) carriageway with 500mm shoulders, a 3% to 5% crossfall draining to grassed swales and 1-in-3 batters, over a pavement of prime and two-coat seal on a 100mm FCR base course and a 150mm FCR sub-base, with 100mm red-gravel shoulders and the sub-base thickness increased for lower-CBR subgrades as noted.

The single-grade profile suits a low-volume rural road where a one-way crossfall is acceptable. It is a ready civil standard – drop it in and adjust the carriageway, shoulders and pavement to suit the traffic and subgrade.
